Choosing a personal alarm doesn't need to be complicated. It really comes down to a few simple questions about daily life, and we're always here to help you decide.
1. Where will it mainly be used?
If your loved one spends most of their time at home and in the garden, an At Home alarm with a pendant is often the perfect fit. If they're active and out and about, shopping, walking, visiting friends, a mobile GPS alarm that works anywhere may suit them better.
2. Is fall detection important?
Automatic fall detection raises the alarm even if the wearer can't press the button, invaluable for anyone at higher risk of falls. It's built in to our Out & About watch, and can be added to the At Home alarm from £4/month.
3. Pendant or watch?
Some people prefer a discreet pendant worn around the neck or wrist; others like a watch that doubles as a normal timepiece. Both are simple, comfortable and designed to be worn all day.
4. What's the response like?
This is the most important part. Look for 24/7 monitoring by a UK-based team, two-way speech so the wearer can talk to a real person, and clear accreditations (Red Button is operated by Red Alert Telecare Ltd, which is FCA authorised, ISO 9001 certified and TSA TEC Quality accredited).
5. Are there any catches?
- Check there's no long contract, ours can be cancelled any time.
- Make sure it works without a landline if you don't have one.
- Ask about VAT relief, many people are eligible to pay no VAT.
