What is fall detection?
A fall-detecting alarm contains small motion sensors that recognise the sudden movement and impact of a hard fall. If one is detected, the device automatically raises an alarm to our 24/7 UK care team, without anyone needing to press a button.
Why it matters
After a serious fall, a person may be unconscious, disorientated, or simply unable to reach the button. Automatic detection bridges that gap, so help can still be on its way.
- Ideal for anyone at higher risk of falls.
- Reassuring for families when a loved one lives alone.
- Works alongside the normal SOS button, you get both.
What happens when a fall is detected?
The alarm connects to our care team, who will speak to the wearer through the device to check they're okay. If there's no response, or help is needed, the team arranges the right assistance, a named contact, a neighbour, or the emergency services. With the GPS watch, we can also locate the wearer if they're away from home.
Fall detection is included with our Out & About watch, and can be added to the At Home alarm from just £4/month.
A note on accuracy
No fall-detection technology is perfect, very gentle slips may not always trigger it, and occasionally everyday knocks can. That's why it always works alongside the manual button, never instead of it. If you ever get an accidental alert, simply tell the operator you're fine, we'd always rather check.
